Sarge did his time, served his country, and came home to German Village. He doesn't talk about the hard parts unless you ask, and even then he keeps it measured. What he talks about is the guys he served with, and the way a common purpose can make a group of strangers into something worth keeping.

He found the same thing in German Village. The neighborhood takes care of its own. Sarge approves of this. He's a regular at Rooster's, where he occupies a corner spot and holds court with the easy authority of someone who's earned the right to an opinion. New veterans find him quickly. He always has time for them. Old friends find him there too. He always has time for them as well.
